Fall Protection Industry May Month In Review

In May, as the weather continued to warm and the construction industry continued to grow, W.S. Safety Technologies is gearing up on some exciting projects we look forward to sharing with you soon. In the meantime, here is some news from the safety and construction industries from around the globe.

News from the construction safety industry:

OSHA is gearing up for Stand Down For Safety which runs from June 2nd-6th. With falls being the number one cause of death on construction sites, everyone from workers to employers will be stopping their regular tasks to concentrate on fall protection through safety education. Only 3 days before OSHA’s Stand Down for Safety, a young man, 26-year-old Jose Lopez from Axton, Virginia, briefly detached his safety harness to move from one section of a roof to another of the job site he was working on and feel to his death. It is said that wind gusts can reach up to 45 mph in the area and it is unknown if that was a factor in this tragic death or if he simply lost his footing and fell. His brother was also working on the site. OHSA is investigating the fall. Read the full store here.

Industrial safety netting saved a 45 year old man from worse injuries in a warehouse fall. Knocked off of a roof by a palette the man fell and landed in the netting. And though the man’s leg was injured and he had to be airlifted from the scene, he was conscious and certainly in better shape than he would’ve been had the safety netting not been in place. Sheffield-based, Eurosafe Solutions has provided a unique fall protection system for maintenance workers with access to the famous (and largest) art installation in Scotland – the Kelpies. The  Kelpies are two 30 metre tall, 300 tonnes horse heads made entirely out of steel, that are the centrepiece of the 740-acre Helix Park, which is between Falkirk and Grangemouth. The company has also solved safety challenges at the Shard, the Emirates Stadium and Heathrow Airport. Read the full store here.
